By lord Krishna killed his maternal uncle Kansa who was a king of Mathura. By this king people of Mathura can not live easy and happy. At that time lord Krishna killed king of Mathura and gave to people of Mathura freedom.

This festival Janmashtmi also known as Krishna Jayanti. The festival fall in every August-September every year. According to popular Hindu god related books Krishna is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
